In the 2013 calendar year, I was able to get away for three different backpacking trips, the most I had done to date in one year. The first was my first experience with snowshoes in Yosemite; the second was my first backpacking trek with my 4-month old daughter; the third was a last minute adventure in Big Basin thanks to a government shutdown. And I wish it could have been more. Every time I shoulder my pack for an excursion into the wilderness, I return tired, dirty, and ripe with b.o. But I also come back full of ideas and excitement for the next trip.
And with how busy life can get as a new father, a husband, and a working engineer, I decided to lay down a goal - simple, but concrete - just as a reminder to continue the fun. So here it is:
The 300 Project is my personal goal to backpack 300 miles starting in 2013 and finishing before my 33rd birthday (approximately 5 years). And yes, I'm giving myself a head start by counting the miles hiked this year, which is total of around 40. Sorry, but I just couldn't let all that work go to waste.
So here's hoping for 300 miles... okay, 260-ish miles... of laughs, photos, and memories worth sharing. AND, here's hoping that none of those laughs, photos, or memories involve me and the word giardia.
